Anne Sobel’s two volume graphic novel series, Asra & the Orphan Moon, was recently picked up by Bloomsbury Qatar Publishing. The first book is due out in early 2018 and will be published in Arabic, English, and French. Her writing has also appeared in The Huffington Post, Jezebel, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Anne is an Associate Producer on a feature length documentary, The Workers Cup, which had its World Premiere at Sundance in 2017, where it was selected as the Opening Night film. The Workers Cup is set to screen at three of the largest international film festivals in 2017: Hot Docs in Toronto, CPH:Dox in Copenhagen, and Sheffield Doc/Fest in the UK.

Anne’s Arab language short, Laish La, was the recipient of a Lipton Middle East Grant and garnered over 3 million views on social media and YouTube. Her film, Rocket to Danger, received Northwestern’s Barbara & Garry Marshall Media Award and was screened at Boston International Film Festival, Athens International, and Miami Short Film Festival, to name a few. It was also a part of the “How We Roll” exhibit at the California African American Museum.  Anne has directed music videos that were distributed via Essay Records, Planet-X Records, and Mint Records respectively.

Anne spent six years living in the Middle East, where she was a Lecturer in Residence at Northwestern University in Qatar. She taught Cinematography, Directing, and Intro to Film Production.
